The first words of the day: what the Prophet ﷺ said on waking, including at night.
Praise for life after sleep
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur.
All praise is for Allah, who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.
On waking during the night
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ. سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ. رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي
La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir. Subhanallah, walhamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil-'Aliyyil-'Azim. Rabbighfir li.
There is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things competent. Glory is to Allah, all praise is for Allah, there is no deity but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and there is no power and no might except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great. My Lord, forgive me.
Whoever says this on waking at night and then supplicates, his supplication is answered; and if he performs wudu and prays, his prayer is accepted.
تَقَبَّلَ اللَّهُ مِنَّا وَمِنْكُمْ
May Allah accept from you, and keep you in His care tonight.
